Joan Rivers – Obscene Plastic Surgery Queen

Celeb:  Joan Rivers
Occupation:  Comedian and Talk Show Host

Then

 Now

It took Joan Rivers years of cosmetic surgery to end up with a face made of plastic.   Aside from the fact that she has sand dunes for cheekbones, her nose is a slice shy of Michael Jackson’s (god rest him) and that she can’t move her mouth (we wish) when she laughs, the overall effect is very natural. I would never have guessed. The pic above is the real Joan when she began her career in the 1960s. She dissed her looks in her early years but personally I think she was very cute.  Anyhoo. Joan broke into showbiz while in her early 20s. She began working seedy bars, strip clubs and any place that would have her. Her first tv appearance was on The Tonight Show which was hosted by Jack Paar. In 1965 Joan wrote and appeared in an episode of Candid Camera. Her second appearance on The Tonight Show was in 1965 now hosted by Johnny Carson. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and hosted several late night talk shows. Fame was knocking on her door and it hadn’t taken that long. Cool. In 1969 she hosted a short-lived daytime talk show with Johnny as her first guest. During 1970s, Joan appeared on various television comedy and variety shows, including The Carol Burnett Show and Hollywood Squares.  On April 9, 1983, she hosted Saturday Night Live. In the same period, she released a best-selling comedy album on Geffen Records, What Becomes a Semi-Legend Most?, reaching No. 22 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. In 1986 Joan was signed on to host The Late Show with Joan Rivers, a career move that ended in tragedy. Joan lost her longtime friend Johnny Carson, who felt she had betrayed him. The new show was scheduled to air between 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., making it a Johnny competitor. Joan claimed she called Johnny with the news, but he hung up and never spoke to her again. The worst was yet to come. Joan disputed Fox’s decision to fire her husband Edgar Rosenberg as the show’s producer and the network fired them both. On May 15, 1987, three months later, her husband committed suicide in Philadelphia. Joan blamed the tragedy on his “humiliation” by Fox. By 1989, she tried another daytime TV talk show, The Joan Rivers Show which ran for five years. To see Joan Rivers: I’m Banned from Fox click here To read Joan Mourns Edgar click here.

That’s where it gets tawdry.

In 1994, Joan and her only child, daughter Melissa, hosted the E! Entertainment Television pre-awards show for the Golden Globe Awards. Beginning in 1995, they hosted the annual E! Entertainment Television pre-awards show for the Academy Awards. That was when Joan’s career took a serious nosedive. Suddenly Joan and Melissa Rivers were no longer hosting E!Entertainment Television for the Academy. The Academy sent them packing. Joan offered the explanation that her entourage was too expensive for the Academy’s budget. What a load of rot. I can tell you what happened. I was there. Well, not really.  During what would be her last season with the Academy Joan startled tv audiences with “all the celebrities are looking around to see who they’re going to fornicate with tonight.” Seriously. She said that. Um, I’d give Joan her walking papers too if I worked for the Academy. Gotta learn where to draw the line, Joan, and that includes your surgeries. To see Joan Rivers Insults her Crew click here. To read Joan and Melissa Rivers Bounced from the Red Carpet click here.

During the 2000s Joan and Melissa have been regular guests on The Howard Stern Show. Joan made guest appearances on a variety of sitcoms including The David Letterman Show. On December 3, 2007, Joan performed before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in the Royal Variety Show 2007 at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.  It would appear that Joan  learned her lesson from her dismissal with the Academy. No scandals emerged from that encounter. However Joan continued her vulgarity in many interviews and tv guest appearances. To see Joan Rivers mock the late Anna Nicole Smith click here.

Joan and Melissa were contestants in 2009 on the second Celebrity Apprentice. After Melissa’s on-air firing (elimination) by Donald Trump, Joan stated she would not be in the next morning. Joan later returned to the show and became a finalist in the series. Joan and her daughter Melissa premiered their own (ugh) reality show Joan & Melissa: Joan knows best January 25, 2011. The series depicts Joan moving in with Melissa while searching for a new home. A new season of 10 episodes is premiering in January 2012. To see Joan Rivers Tortures daughter on new show click here

Redemption
Somehow the public seems to like Joan. I don’t get it either.
Comeback
She bounced back fairly well after the Academy fired her and she is filming her own (ugh) reality show.
Comeback Grade: P for Put down the scalpel already.
Joan’s Facebook Fans: 5,086 – and they’re all pooling their money to pay for plastic surgery to sew her mouth shut

My one and only fan Damien:  If that shit ever snaps someone’s going to get hurt ….large
